I was woken up at 7 this morning by the booming voices of older men outside of my room. They were some sort of maintenance workers (as I found out when I saw them still in the hallway when I went to brush my teeth at 9.)

But the point is that at 7am in a college dorm they were talking, and laughing, very loudly.

I get that they are probably helping us doing something, and that this is their job and they want to socialize during it.

But they don't realize just because they are not in a house, that they are standing in the middle of our home. And waking most of us up so early is rude.

Also, someone has officially vacuumed outside of my door three times in that two hours span. Every single time hitting the door several times and making a ton of noise.

Low Back Bras

Hey guys! I need some bra advice today! I'm trying to decide between two specific bras.

I have several dresses and such where a low back bra would really be ideal to wear with it. The only place I have been able to find a low back bra is at Victoria's Secret, and they have two.

They have:

The 100 Way Bra, which seems great because it can go 100 ways! Think of the possibilities! Plus is has a clear strap between the two cups, so if a low cut shirt slips a bit it won't look as odd in that area. The bad thing, it is only a level 1 lift, and the cups don't look incredibly supportive. The last things she saw was his broad shoulders, crossed brows, and determined face rushing toward her in the crowd before she was swept into his arms, engulfed by his heated, angry kiss.

Once the fireworks stopped everything went dark. Their world was lit by the moon and the stars, too dull for anyone to find their way in the caverns between the city buildings.

And yet they ran. He pulled her away from the crowed immediately, taking her to brave the maze of buildings in the dark.

Now there was nothing, nothing but blackness. She was left to relying on nothing but her hearing and her touch.

She knew now, what it really felt like. Just like everyone always said, when you loose one of your senses the other four grew stronger.

Everything noise was exaggerated in her ears. Their feet pounded continually on the cold cement of the abandoned streets. Thunderous booms shocked her ear drums with each harsh, fast step they took. She heard voices coming from every direction; some were deep, roaring shouts filled with anger, more were piercing shrieks of fright, while others were desperate cries for loved ones. Each voice reverberated itself in her ears, echoing in her mind until long after they had passed. She heard car horns screeching into the night, glass shattering against the tin trashcans thrown through windows, sirens wailing; providing light somewhere off in the distance that she could not see.

She also heard gun shots.

Their deafening noise bombarded her ears. They were so loud they sounded as if they were being fired right beside her.

It wasn’t until she heard the gunshots that she realized how much she was feeling at that moment.

Wet, hot, sticky teardrops slid down her face in waves. She could feel them dripping onto her exposed collarbone as she ran. She forcefully willed herself to stop crying, and yet she just cried harder. Her eyes were swollen and itchy, her nose dripping onto her lips. She could taste the salty fluids as they snuck into her open mouth. Her breaths came in short, harsh pants. Her chest was burning, fighting and begging for the oxygen she could not give it. The crying wasn’t helping. She felt as though she would collapse any second.

The dark world around her spun in and out like a kaleidoscope of noises and feelings, spinning faster and faster with each stride she took. Her arms were hot, sweat pasted her flimsy dress to her torso, her hair beat cruelly against the back of her neck as tears continued to flow out of her blazing eyes. She knew that any second the world would spin together and she would be engulfed by the panic, a victim of turmoil.

And yet, she kept running. Because of the one feeling that overcame all of them.

It overcame the fear, the pain, and the desperation. It beat the urge that told her to stop, to let herself be taken by the mobs of manic people. It kept her going.

It was the feeling of his hand, grasped so tightly onto hers it hurt. She could feel his blood pulsating through his fingers, each muscle of his left a momentary impression on her delicate palm, his hand shook, from exhaustion…

..from fear.

And even though she knew he was terrified (she could practically hear his heart pounding out of his chest) his touch was the only thing that was assuring her everything would be fine.

And suddenly he stopped. She slammed into his arm, grabbing it severely for balance. Her legs felt as though they were going to fall off of her body, all she wanted to do was collapse onto the ground, but his hand was still grasped onto her and she remained standing.

“We can’t go this way,” he said wretchedly, less out of breathe than she has expected him to be.

She huffed several gulps of breath against his shoulder before asking why.

“Look,” was all the reply she got.

She heavily lifted her head as he took two steps forward to eliminate the dumpster blocking her view, and saw what he was talking about.

The blue and red lights flashed harshly and burned her eyes; she blinked a few times, her head pounding, before realizing what was happening.

Four police cars were parked across the entire street, their officers surrounding them on the other side. They couldn’t tell what was going on beyond them, but they knew enough to know they weren’t going to get through. It was the only way to make it to Nina’s home.

“Come on,” Benny said, pulling her hand as they ran down the street again.

Nina didn’t know where he was taking her, and was too delirious to care. She trusted him to get them both to safety.

She just wished they didn’t have to run to safety.

While he was jogging every morning since he graduated high school, she had been sitting behind computers and books for the last six years

But when she heard more gun shots echo in her ears, she was content with the running.

LINE

It was too dark for her to see where they were when he slowed his run into a fast walk.

“We’re here,” he huffed, not letting go of her hand as he led her though two doors and up two flights of stairs.

She didn’t realize that they were at his apartment until he pulled a key out of his pocket and started trying to unlock the door in the dark. She felt a wave of loss ripple through her body as he Benny let go of her hand to get a better handle on the key.

She rested her head against the wall as he worked with the key; her breaths came out in wild pants. Finally the door sprung open and Nina followed Benny inside.

“Wait there,” Benny warned her, “the place is kind of a mess. I have some candles I think.”

Nina stood by the door, trying her hardest to catch her breath as she listened to Benny rummage through his small apartment, searching for any source of light.

“Score,” she heard him shout. She giggled at his enthusiasm.

Suddenly he was walking towards her again, a ray of light pointing towards her feet.

“Okay,” he said, stopping at what Nina assumed was his kitchen table. He dropped the several things that he had piled into his arms, making them rattle across the table. He shone the flashlight he had found upon the objects. There Nina saw five or six candles, another flashlight, a box of matches, and was she assumed was Benny’s prized find, a battery powered lantern.

Nina stayed where she was planted, for fear of her legs giving out on her if she took a step forward.

Benny fluidly lit all the candles with one match, barley getting the last one to catch before the fire of the match had reached his fingers. For a moment more he fiddled with the camping lantern, before its fluorescent shine illuminated the five feet around it, showing Nina what a mess Benny’s apartment really was. The light flickered and flashed annoyingly across the table.

She smiled, despite the last showing of tears that were till dripping down her red cheeks.

Finally Benny held out a flashlight towards where she was standing, where she was still mostly hidden in the shadows.

“For you,” he smiled.

She moved toward him slowly, her legs shaking as she stepped over discarded clothes and other miscellaneous items she didn’t care to identify in the dim lighting.

The moment her face was illuminated by the camping lantern Benny rose from the chair he had sat in to ease his own legs.

“Hey,” he said, moving toward her until their bodies were practically touching. “You okay?”

A new wave of tears spilled out of Nina’s eyes. In a split second Benny’s hand was rested upon her cheek, the pads of his thumbs wiping the fresh tears from her eyes.

“No I’m fine; I don’t know what’s wrong with me. I was just scared before, but I’m safe now. I’m fine, promise.”

Nina wasn’t used to this whole ‘being taken care of’ thing.

She tilted her head down to the ground, ashamed to meet his eyes.

“Nina,” he said softly and smiled, “it’s okay.”

At his words she leaned into his chest, his shirt sticky from the summer heat. His strong arms wrapped around her shaking shoulders.

“I was just so scared,” she cried, her words almost inaudible against his chest. “Everyone was going crazy, and I couldn’t find you anywhere, and then we were running and all the gun shots and the cries, I was just so afraid you were going to let go of my hand and I wouldn’t be able to keep up with you…”

“Nina,” he said in the most comforting voice Nina had ever heard. “I know. When I lost you in the club I almost had a damn panic attack. I didn’t know where you were or what had happened to you…or…God…I…I…couldn’t lose you.”

“I’m so sorry,” she cried into his baby blue shirt.

“Nina, don’t…”

“No, it’s all my fault,” she pulled her head away from his chest to look him in the eyes, but wouldn’t dare make him loosen his grip on her body. “It’s my fault that you got fired and you don’t have a job anymore and you may not…”

“Nina stop, please.”

“But…”

“I never should have been mad at you, I never should have yelled at you, or been so horrible to you, I was mad I didn’t have a job, it… it doesn’t matter anymore. Nothing that happened tonight matters, nothing but right now.”

“Thank you for keeping me safe.”

With nothing more to say Benny leaned down and captured her lips with his. Several moments later he broke away.

“In about an hour the crowds will probably have died down, I’ll take you home then.”

She looked at him for a moment, their eyes locked together.

“I don’t want to go home.”

Benny dropped his embrace and took several steps backward.

“Nina…I…”

“Benny, I want to stay here… with you.”

“Nina, you don’t need to be afraid, I’m sure whatever those cops were dealing with is broken up now, we can just take…”

“Benny...” she whispered.

“Nina I don’t want to…”

“You’re not,” she assured him softly, “I feel safe here. I’m too scared to go back.”

“You don’t have to be.”

Nina placed herself right back into Benny’s arms.

“I’m too scared not to be with you tonight, I need you to protect me,” she smiled up at him.

“Yeah?”

“Yeah.”

He kissed her again, but this time it was her who pulled away.

“Benny, turn off the stupid camping light, it’s not exactly romantic.”

He laughed, reached over, and clicked off the light.

Guess who hasn't written anything substantial in a year! ME!!!!!!

But here it is, an In The Heights fanfiction. It's just kind of a way to exercise my way back into writing. I can tell its a little rough, and toward the end I made it a little too cheesy, but I really was just having fun with it.

It wasn’t that the copious amounts of food that he mother would concoct, which held a delicate balance between Puerto Rican and American style, wasn’t missed by Nina. It was more that there were many sweet and delicious foods that California could offer her that New York City could not. She still missed her mothers cooking, the wide variety of take out Manhattan had to offer, and the giant turkey sandwiches she would order at Carnegie Deli when her father allowed her the opportunity of a trip into the city. But in California there was always an abundance of fresh breads, vegetables, and fruits at every grocery store and farmer’s market.

Because of the many farmers markets that lined the small roads Nina would take to and from her classes and work, she had found a new favorite food.

Watermelon.

She had found a stand that ended the line of many others just outside the B.A.R.T. station; her first transport home from her Saturday morning job. She worked as a Saturday secretary at a law firm, which meant that she was left alone to sort papers and stock the store room in the law office; jobs too trivial for the regular secretary. The job was tedious and boring, but it paid well. She was also free to blast the music of her choice as she completed her tasks and to leave as soon as the work was done; being paid the same amount whether she was there five hours or one.

So every Saturday she would stop at the same stand press her ear onto the cool fruit, knocking her fist on several watermelons to find which one sounded the hollowest. The old woman who ran the stand spoke only a few words of English, knowing only how to say the names of the fruits, the cost, and thank you. Nina would spend several minutes speaking to her in her beautiful Spanish, and listen to tid-bits of the woman’s life story. She painfully reminded Nina of Abuela Claudia, with her kind eyes and devoted smile.

Nina would then lug the watermelon all the way home, which included subway rides, walking, and bus rides. She would giggle as the people who passed by her shot her strange looks. The sight of a small girl carrying a large watermelon around bus depots and city streets was always going to look out of the ordinary. But the watermelons at the grocery store across the street were never quite as sweet, and Nina was unwilling to part with the women at the fruit stand anyway.

Once she returned home she would pull the largest butcher knife from her roommate’s expensive knife set and pierce the hard outer shell of the watermelon. She would have to use her small muscles to carve the entire green covering away from the pink, sweet flesh of the fruit.

In a world where work, money, and school dominated a young girl’s life, she had to make room for silly, simple pleasures.

One Saturday afternoon, when the previous week had left her sleep deprived due to tests and papers, and her Friday night was consumed by her waitress job, Nina laughed into her empty apartment as a though jumped into her head.

It was a ridiculous comparison, but much too funny for Nina not to allow herself to indulge in it.

Benny reminded her greatly of a watermelon.

She told him so later that night as they lay in bed together; their bare flesh sticking to one another in the first showings of May warmth.

His boisterous laugh filled her small bedroom and she finally had to lightly pound on his chest to get him to stop, embarrassed by her childish comment.

“Nina,” Benny said, slightly out of breath, “where did that come from.”

“Never mind it was stupid,” she said dolefully, hiding her face in his chest.

“Oh, no, no, no,” he said with a smile, flipping her over and attacking her collar bone with kisses. “You have to tell me what that means now.”

With a gentle push from Nina, Benny let her free from his grasp. She sat up in bed, pulling the sheets around her torso and hugging her legs.

“Okay, well…” she said with a smile before she giggled into her knees. “No Benny, it really is stupid, I don’t know what I was thinking.”

“Nina, just tell me,” he growled teasingly.

“Fine. I guess it could work with other things too, a truffle or…”

At her words Benny erupted into another fit of laughter.

“Benny!” Nina scolded.

“Aw, come on Nina, a truffle.”

“Fine, I guess you’ll never know what I meant,” Nina sighed, getting ready to slide out of bed in mock anger.

“No,” Benny said, grabbing her arm, “I’m listening. What does it mean?”

Nina sighed with a smile and brought her knees back up to her chest.

“It’s just that, you have this hard outer shell. That part of you is co…confident,” she said, stopping herself from using a less complimentary word, “and proud. Plus you’re outgoing and energetic, and it’s good, but that isn’t all you are.”

Benny’s lips were curled into a little smile, and Nina rolled her eyes at him.

“Go on, go on…” Benny said.

“Well, you have this whole other part of you on the inside that you don’t always let people see. You’re incredibly sweet, and caring. Plus a little self conscious…”

“I’m not self conscious!” Benny defended.

Nina smiled down at him, “Vanessa told me how upset you were when I was in California and you were still in New York. How you would confide in Usnavi that you were afraid I would realize that I was too good for you and forget about you.”

“Damn Usnavi, can’t keep his mouth shut,” Benny huffed.

Nina just smiled and continued. “My point is that I knew you for years before you let me see that softer side. I mean, I could always kind of sense there was something else, like when you would visit me at the dispatch on hot summer afternoons when we were kids and make me laugh. But it wasn’t until last summer that yo”u really showed me what a…”

“Classy, handsome, perfect…” Benny teased.

“…kind,” Nina smiled, “person you are. Benny you were the one that assured me everything was going to be okay after I dropped out of school, you were the one who promised me I could do anything I wanted with my life. You’ve supported me every step of the way since then and I…

“Nina…” Benny whispered.

“I love all of you Benny, I really do; that goofy, boastful guy just as much as that gentle insecure guy.”

“Thank you,” Benny breathed into her ear.

“For what?”

“For seeing past the crazy guy and letting me show you how… loving…I really can be, especially to you.” Benny spoke softly, embarrassed somewhat by his own words.

Nina found his chin with her hand and brought his face level with hers.

“Para siempre” she said tenderly, before matching his lips with hers.

Under the cut is a series of pictures that I cannot decide which is the better of the two or three. Some are edited differently, some are completely different pictures. PLEASE take two minutes and tell me which pictures are better. I Am A Mime

Monday was MISMATCH DAY!

Then Tuesday was TWIN DAY!

I don't know if you can tell, but my shirt says "Ari's Twin" and his says "Emma's Twin"

Wednesday was Spirit day, meaning you were supposed to wear our school colors, red, white and blue. We had PSATs that day, so I just wore and red and white shirt and blue jeans, so no pics. I do wish I had a picture of Ross though, he wore a flag around his back.

Thursday was NERD DAY!

This is my brother's Star Trek costume, he is a real nerd, lol.

I was doing this all day.

Friday was BATTLE OF THE DECADES!

Obviously a bunch of us were 60's.

I’m in charge of my dressing rooms at my high school. Recently I have decided to section the girl's dresses by period. The only problem is most of the people who use the room have no idea what section is dedicated to which decade, since they often can’t tell from looking at the clothes themselves. I would love for me not to have to be there for every single time someone needs a costume.

Basically I am looking for two things.

One, does anyone know where I could find those little hanger things that don’t actually hold cloths but attached to the top of the hook is a small section where you could write something like “20’s, 30’s, 40’s” I think a lot of time they are used in stores (I know American Eagle has them on their sales racks) to section off sizes, usually on a circular rack.

If you don’t know where I could find those, does anyone have any other ideas about how I could label the sections without just taking a label maker and sticking a label on the edge of the wooden shelf above the racks.

If you think you could help if you had a picture I can get you one, photobucket just isn’t letting me use pics in my posts today

Hello again all. I think this is my 6th or 7th post. I’m Emma from California. Today started in Arizona and ended in Nevada, but it has very little road trip photos since we were only on the road about 1/5th of the day. For me this day was super exciting, I hope you all enjoy it. New friends are always welcome, as our comments!

Oh, warnings for naked Caesar statues.

I wake up in a hotel room at the Grand Canyon at about 6:47

My bed head is pretty tame, but my cousin Sam’s isn’t!

Change into a pretty sun dress I just bought.

I straighten my hair quickly, my new hair cut is semi-easy to maintain.

I put on face make-up, no eyes yet.

They have these cool waffle makers at the continental breakfast.

Food!

I love this silly picture, so does Sam.

We pack up and load it all into the car for the four hour drive to Vegas. We leave around 8.

I want a lover with this car, lol.

Sam and I play Taboo-ish, we just use the cards. We bought it for $3 at a thrift store the night before.

I sleep, a lot.

We stop at Carl’s Jr for a rest stop and Sam buys food, I take a fry and a sip of the shake and go back to sleep.

We see the dam.

Sam reads and finishes her shake, this is meant to be a time check, but I obviously don’t understand that aspect of my camera, it is around 11:45 though.

I touch up my make up and add eyes.

Sam has a really weird blue vein above her eye, ew.

We arrive in Vegas, we are staying at the Sahara.

Sam falls in love with this hippie car.

We get our rooms and I crash for about 10 minutes before we are off.

First, along with my parents, we buy tickets for a show tonight. The lady thought we were 18 and kept showing us all these adult shows, lol. We really wanted to see Producers but it was too expensive for my mother and the cheap seats sucked, so we bought tickets to Legends.

We eat here for lunch.

And I had this coffee and a croissant.

My strip map, we know Vegas pretty well, but this is the first time we have walked around alone, so it was a precaution.

We buy tickets for the monorail and board it.

At the Imperial Palace, we needed to get off here to get to Caesars.

And go into many stores like Juicy and Playboy that we can’t afford anything in.

On our way to the Bellagio we are very upset at the littering, even in the fountains.

We watch the fountain show, which is to a song from Guys and Dolls, which I performed in around the same time I saw Rent, ah Broadway.

We walk the blvd.

Sam loves this.

We see the bird exhibit at the Flamingo.

I kinda REALLY want to be a wedding planner.

We are wiped.

Sam doesn’t hold on on the monorail and falls, a lot.

Ew, squid. She’s a vegetarian so she finds this grosser than I do.

This is what we buy, we didn’t spend any money on the strip.

And go down to the pool for about an hour.

I read my magazine as Sam showers.

Then I shower.

All ready to go to dinner and meet…

FELICIA!!!! We met over a year ago on LJ and have become each others confidants since then, I was so excited and nervous to meet her! I’m so glad she lived in Vegas so I can see her sometimes.

The food was gross, so I didn’t take any pictures, but the remnants are on the table.

I felt tall.

Sam and I have to RUN to the monorail because we are cutting it close to see Legends, we are very out of breath.

So, if you can read this, and you haven't ever been able to read any of my posts in the past, then I have a question for you.

So i found out that sometimes when i add people, something goes wrong and you don't actually get added to my flist.

I don't know how long it has been going on, but now i have about 6 people under 'also friend of' on my profile.

Give me the reason why you added me, and then I shall probably friend you.
